Marketing Specialist, University of Wisconsin-Superior

Jade is a Marketing Specialist with the University of Wisconsin-Superior. With a degree in graphic design, Jade is responsible for crafting marketing materials such as email blasts to attract potential students to the university. Jade walks us through her creative process as well as shares some upcoming projects, such as integrating Snapchat geofilters into her marketing campaign!

My name is Jade Golan, and I am a marketing specialist for the University of Wisconsin Superior. For me, I really focus on admissions so I'm doing a lot of their graphic design for admissions and marketing, creating communication flows in their CRM. Customer Relations Management system, it's a real fancy system that kind of keeps track of all of the students and just a way to organize that information and kind of follow them through the enrollment process. So Snapchat is huge right now. I have the opportunity to create Snapchat geo filters. So if somebody is on campus and they're using that app, they can swipe through and find our filter. It could be something cool that says University of Wisconsin Superior on it and then they can share that with their friends and it's a great way to market us so that other people can see our college and see our brand. I work a lot face to face with people; different departments, helping them with their marketing needs. But like I said, mainly admissions. So I get to travel around campus a lot, really building to building. I'm constantly walking getting in all my steps. (laughing) And designing that can take quite a bit of time, so... I kind of gather all of my notes at all of my meetings and then try to organize them into some sort of list and then I usually start to sketch on paper before I move into the digital realm. And then once I am in the digital realm I do what's called digital sketching. So really just kinda throwing ideas around until something clicks and works and then taking that information that I wrote down and plugging it in and making sure everything's laid out with purpose. So I am building out the emails to send to prospective students that are interested in UW Superior. I'm designing them, writing the content for them, and kind of hitting every step for them. So whether it be, you know, them applying or needing to apply for their FAFSA, really just all the communication steps until they're enrolled.
