  • Ask questions concerning specific concerns that are relevant to your career path

  • Explain what a resume is and its purpose
  • Explain basic formatting guidelines for resume writing including what section headings are valid
  • How to tailor a resume to the opportunity and audience
  • How to figure out your professional skills
  • How to write strong accomplishment statements using your transferable skills and results

  • Explain what a cover letter is and its purpose
  • How to identify top strengths (skills/experience/expertise) that fit the requirements for a particular position
  • How to articulate a specific reason for their interest in an organization and position/opportunity
  • Explain the basic structure for formatting a cover letter

  • Identify several tools available to assist students in creating and practicing effective elevator pitches

  • Fill in appropriate section headings with information
  • Understand how to achieve an intermediate profile strength
  • Develop a professional summary
  • Understand what the LinkedIn Alumni Tool is and how it can be utilized

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

• Understand the concept of behavioral interviewing
• Implement the STAR method for answering behavioral-based questions
• List at least 2 pre-interview preparation steps
• Discuss the difference between interviewing in-person vs virtually
• Identify interview practice platforms that can provide feedback
• Understand how and why it is important to conduct company research prior to an interview

  • Be able to name at least 3 sources where internships and 3 sources where micro-internships can be found

  • Understand what the LinkedIn Alumni Network is and how it can be utilized
  • Articulate the value of an internship

  • Understand how and why it is important to conduct company research

  • Utilize informational interviewing for a job search
  • Understand the value of the Handshake and LinkedIn Profiles in a job search
  • How to utilize mock interviews in preparation for a job search

  • Understand the role of self-confidence in a Career Fair

  • Complete both a Handshake and LinkedIn profile

  • Design your resume for company specificity

  • Create an effective and successful elevator pitch
  • Design your resume for company specificity
  • Learn more about the opportunities offered by companies

  • Understand how to conduct in-depth company research; what to look for and what questions to ask
  • Answer a variety of questions utilizing the STAR interview format
  • Develop relevant questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview
  • Write a follow-up message to thank interviewers after an interview
  • Learn what is considered appropriate dress for the interview

  • Register for both an information session and a 1:1 meeting
